Baguette diamonds are elongated rectangular diamonds, characterised by square corners and step cut facets arranged in rows. Typical proportions provide a width that is half the length. So, a 4mm long baguette might measure 2mm in width, although this can vary. The word is French for the long narrow loaf of bread. This cut of diamond came into use during the 1920's and is typically used for shoulder diamonds. This type of cut is very unforgiving when it comes to clarity, with marks being noticeable. Aim for a better clarity when choosing baguettes.

I'd like to add, if I might, that there is an whole other subcategory of tapered baguette diamonds. I would also add that Emerald cut diamonds are on some occasion referred to as Baguette cut.
