Enhanced natural diamonds are natural diamonds (ie. from the earth as opposed to created artificially) that have been treated to change their appearance in one way or another. Any treatment should be fully disclosed when it is sold. For example, our website sells certain colour enhanced diamonds. These are produced in a range of shades, the natural equivalents being far out of reach for most people, due to cost.
Other enhancement techniques, treatments such as glass filling, or laser treatment to hide or remove imperfections in the stone will significantly devalue a diamond. As a rule, most diamond sellers will not deal with the latter types of treated diamonds.
I hope this has been some help to explain a little.

Is there any sort of test that can be run on the diamond to find out if it is an enhanced diamond or a natural diamond? Let's say you have a family heirloom passed down and there is no certificate or confirmation about the diamond, how would I know if it is a natural pink diamond or an enhanced pink diamond?

Hi Tina,
It's pretty apparent to most trained gemologists what's a natural pink, yellow or blue based on it's hue and saturation. Most enhanced diamonds, diamond simulants and even synthetic diamonds that are "blue" or "pink" for example don't really look like the same color a natural diamond would.
Now that's not to say they could rule out 100%, it's impossible for someone to just look at a stone and know it's a natural color. For natural colors like this, it's really a prerequisite to get a highly reputable lab such as the GIA to examine it.
