What sort of setting will be best to display a round brilliant, 1.3 carat diamond... a cathedral setting or a tension setting?
I like how high the cathedral mounts are but the tension rings are pretty good at showing off the diamond. that's really what I'm after. Which one would best make the diamond stand out better? or is there another setting that might be better than those two?

I think it probably depends on whether you are looking for something traditional or more modern. There are so many designs to choose from, it really is personal preference. A modern four claw setting will be simple, keeping the focus on the diamond. A six claw setting will provide security for the diamond and can be found in many variations of design. Here are a few possible designs you might be interested in.

Well if you like elevated rings like cathedral style, and you like tension rings, this is a really cool one:

It's a very modern looking ring that's for sure, I like it. It's a Danhov Tension Ring.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback and the photos of the rings!

Metal touching the gem affects the amount of light return, therefore the less metallic surface the greater the Brilliance and Sparkle. A traditional four prong setting works best for me.
