I'm having a tough time figuring out the practical differences between a princess and a radiant. Is it the way they cut the buttoms? I was looking at this one stone and I thought it was a princess but the guy said it was a radiant.

To put it in its simplest terms, a Princess cut has corners on the diamond. A Radiant however does not have corners. These have been faceted. The brilliance from each is similar. As with many of the fancy shapes, it is a matter of personal taste with shapes.
I have a few details on diamond shapes to clarify, found at the following address.

Your confusion is quite justified! They are very similar and the only slight difference is that radiant shaped diamonds will have smooth edges unlike the princess. Radiant diamonds (http://www.b2cjewels.com/Content.aspx?contentid=42) have cropped edges. I hope this helps!

Ok so I guess that means a "cushion" is a chubbier version of a radiant? (I'm guessing!)
So aside from the cropped corners, are the fassets (sp) the same on the princess/radiants?

No not at all. A cushion have a much different faceting pattern as a princess or radiant. In fact there are several faceting patterns for cutting cushions and radiants. Princess is more standardized.

There are Rectangles and rectangles, some are long and some are square, some have sharp corners and some have them cut off on an angle, those that have them rounded are cushion cuts, or Asshers. Some people eat stewed Tripe and others cant stand the thought.
