I was looking at Assher cut diamonds and I stumbled upon a Royal Assher. What's the difference between an Assher and Royal Assher?

Hi Zahra,

The asscher and the royal asscher are very similar but very different. First you start with the shape, the look by quick glance to be the same. They are square, have cut corners and overall appear very similar.

But the royal asscher is a patented cut that has slightly more facets, and in generate is cut to more exacting standards. For example royal asschers tend to have less depth and much smaller tables then your average generic asscher. There are other cut variations as well, but suffice to say it's a premium asscher and in my opinion definately worth the extra price.

Having said that there is value in some generics that are also cut well. The trick of course is finding a nice one. Work with a jeweler you trust, and consider both asscher and royal asscher, maybe even go to a store and see both in person. It's something you definitely want to be choosy with rather then picking the first one you see or the cheapest on an online list of diamonds.

If you need any assistance in locating one, please let me know.

Best Regards,
Yosef

Hey yosef!

So how different can the number or type of facets be before a certain shape is no longer that type of shape, but another shape??

Isnt that sort of like the round brilliant that has double the amount of facets?

Royal Asscher Diamond has more of a distinctive "step" cut, with a pronounced and visually beautiful windmill effect.

Assher cut diamonds do not exhibit these same parameters.

All other things being equal, the answer is the BRAND, which entitles the retailer contracted to sell this brand for more which he earns by selling them and paying premium for them. I suggest that a reasonable test would be to find a jeweler who carried both and look at them side by side allowing for size, color and clarity. Then you can choose the one you like best.
