Hi

I have a 0.40 round brilliant diamond- SI1 F-G. The ring has no visible inclusions and even under a loupe it appears clear. yet. the diamond does not SPARKLE. It appears to have a "silver" or "white-ish" tint to it- which makes you unable to really see the facets nice and clearly. It is not cloudy, it is just not "sparkly".

I am trying to figure out why it would look like this since it is an SI1 and good colour. The peopel who sold it to me appraised it at $2250. But now i am sceptical and wondering if it might be flourescence. i am a bit worried we paid too much for a diamond that is not worth the price.

Any advice?

Hold on here we go! Sparkle is a factor of cut. If you had posted the measurements of the stone in question, I might have run it through my eCS calculator and analyzed it for you. But you can do it yourself for free on my site at e-praise.com. Florescence is a physical reaction of certain elemental impurities in the molecular lattice of the gem that is excited into a state of light emission under stimulation of Ultra Violet light. I'd be happy to answer any further questions; as I return here often to review.
