Hi, I was wondering which of these cuts is more "ideal" and sparkles best? I hear GIA is the best but then everyone selling ideal cut diamonds usually recommends AGS so I'm confused. Thanks!
Jeff
Hi Jeff. GIA and AGS both have relatively new cutting standards which is great for the industry as a whole. I think you can find a top cut GIA stone that's both graded "Excellent" and "Very Good" , and you can also find not so perfect stones graded the same. GIA's cut grade is wider then what AGS would consider "Ideal". Also AGS will not give an Ideal grade to anything that does not have ideal symmetry and polish while GIA would. You can find great diamonds graded both by GIA and AGS in their excellent/ideal grades, but in the end you should always compare them side by side to see which one catches your eye the most.
Oo..
GIA's cut grade is wider than what AGS would consider " Ideal "...
So, is that possible .. Two loose diamonds, with the same grade on GIA certificate, will come with different price?
Because actually they are different in cut grade, if they have AGS certification?

It depends on the seller, I haved always used GIA as the standard for any kind of gemstone grading, wheather it be cut, color, clarity, etc. and am extremely proud to have become a Graduate Gemologist through GIA; however the AGS grading system is extremely advanced and extremely difficult to manually calculate (AGS uses a computer based program which is more in-depth than the current GIA system)
When it comes to price, there shouldn't be much variance between an AGS 0 and a GIA excellent. The AGS 0 may cost a little more...but don't let anyone try and push this grade too much (especially against a GIA excellent).
