Hi,
My grandma just told me she is giving me a ring of hers she's had for about 25 years - she said she paid about $3,000 for it, but was told that it was worth double that, but the store was going out of business and she got a "deal." It's a pear shaped diamond and emeralds "dinner ring". . . should I assume it's gone up in value, or is there really no way to know? I'd like to have a sense of what to expect when I go to the jeweler to have it appraised.
Thanks,
Diamond D
In 25 years it should have gone up in value. It really depends on so many things. The cut of the stone, modern cuts are worth more. The size, clarity, color, etc... these affect rarity, larger sizes have gone up more then the smaller ones.
If you mention the specs on the stone(s) I'd be happy to give you a ballpark figure of what it's worth. You may want to get it appraised as well, find out if the stones or mounting have any antique value to them as well.

I agree with what JOHN said.. BUT along with this ..there are lots of things count while deciding the price.
Good Luck !!!

At times we are asked this question; the best response is one just as hypothetical, or why do you need to know? You see that so many things depend on the answers to other questions. The best answer would be to consult a professional Appraiser of Gems and Jewelry who is honor bound to perform for you in your best interest with all the skills of his/her profession.

I'm not sure i'd want to know whether it was worth more or not . Im a sentimental person and for me I would only want to know if I were planning on selling it . but thats just a personal preference ;) would love to see a picture of it if your able to post one ?
