Hi Everyone. I am new to the Forum, and just need a little help in clarifying some information about a ring I have inheirited.
I have looked at several websites trying to determine the actual grade of color for the diamond in this ring. It was my Grandmothers Engagement ring and simply beautiful! I have determined it to be from the early 1920's and I do have the original appraisal with the ring. My question is this:
The appraisal states that the color is A. I am not able to find this on any of the diamond info websites I have visited. Does anyone have any knowledge of this color grade?
Also, the diamond is 75 points with VS clarity set in 18k white gold. Any ideas on a value??
Thanks,
Patsy

I start with a great big Smile; in the 20's and 30's diamond dealers before the GIA set up the color system now in use called their stones by letters. Each one chose to make his better than the others by calling one an "A", then a competitor called his "AA" and so forth, when GIA came online they; in order not to be confusing started the nomenclature with the letter "D" and carried forward from there. Therefore your "A" grade stone could be anything on the scale from D though Z. To find out exactly take it to an Appraiser who has the proper equipment to make that determination for you. It might cost you for his time, but would be well worth it.
