Carat weight and physical size?

Hello, I have been looking for the perfect ring for a while now, and I think I have found exactly what I am looking for. The ring is pictured with a 1 carat princess cut diamond, and it looks absolutely amazing. With my budget, however, I am limited to a .51 carat diamond (us college kids are always poor you know!). I just wonder how good the whole ring will look now. I have done some research, and by resizing pictures of different carat diamonds it seems that a .5 is more like 70-75% the physical size of the 1 carat diamond as opposed to half ((I know that it is not size that determines carat weight, but it seems like it would be somewhat expected)) is this the case, or close to it?

A well cut 1.00 princess will measure approx 5.4 mm squared.
A well cut 0.5 princess will measure approx 4.3 mm squared

Hey thanks, that work out perfectly. I was really wondering if a lesser cara diamond would look good in the setting, and it seems like it will!
