Hello,

Is anyone here familiar with GemScan? It is a Toronto-based diamond certification lab. However, I hear they are not always as accurate/stringent in their grading as compared to GIA and was hoping someone could either confirm or dispel my suspicions.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm considering two identical diamond rings from two stores. The first store, using GIA, prices their ring at $2400 and the second, using GemScan, is pricing theirs at $2000 and it's now actually on sale for $1300! Is this really too good of a deal to be true?

Gemscan is a good organization and very fair with their grading. They serve the Canadian market well. Just make sure it's a well cut diamond.

If the only difference is the maker of the certificates, but the criteria are exactly the same. Then by all means go for the bargain.
I would suggest that the measurments be as identical as the rest, this will insure cut.
