I have recently made a purchase of an engagement ring for my partner - I am from Melbourne, Australia and I shopped around the city to find the best deal that money could buy me.

I had a budget of $2,000 AUD for the ring setting and diamond, I was not sure what it would buy me and after going to several retail stores and other jewellers there was not much available. I am also a novice when it comes to jewellery and diamonds - and the sales assistants were not very helpful.

A friend recommended that I do go the Diamond Exchange - I had to organise an appointment and I went to see them a day or so later. They were much more helpful and actually told me a lot about the characteristics of a diamond and also what to look out for and what to avoid.

In the end I was able to purchase an engagement ring within my budget - and even though I am yet to see it I hope I have made the right choice. Could anyone please look at the link below and let me know if the diamond I have chosen will be worth it?

As I mentioned, I have made the purchase of this item above, but still not being an expert or having a lot of knowledge about the item I am still wondering if I got a good deal - they were much more competitive than other jewellers around Melbourne, however I had a thought in the back of my mind that is was "too good to be true"

I am also looking to get the ring independantly valued for insurance purposes, and to also see if I got what I paid for - I am looking forward to picking up the ring in the next week, and I shall post a photo if I get time!

We recommend when purchasing diamonds in Australia with either GIA , IGI or EGL diamond grading reports to verify the accuracy of the diamond grading report / diamond certificate.

The Diamond Certification Laboratory of Australia in Sydney ( DCLA Telephone 02 9261 2104 ) can provide this service.

The DCLA is an International Diamond Council diamond grading laboratory.
