Will tension set rings hold a diamond well if it has a very thin gidle?
Thanks!

Hi Mike,
The tension rings we sell made by Danhov are of top quality and craftsmenship. Each ring is designed for each diamond so that the ring puts equal pressure distributions on the diamond. This makes it easier to set diamonds with very thin girdles which are more prone to chipping.
Tension set rings also do lend themselves more to exposing the diamond which could cause you to chip it later on down the line. So while we fully gaurantee the diamond to be set properly, we can't gaurantee a diamond with a very think girdle won't become chipped due to wear. I'd recommend something with a "thin" to "thick" girdle instead for a tension set ring. If you're going with a tension set ring other then Danhov, Steven Kretchmer or Niessing I'd be very leary of the manufacturer.

Something that comes to mind while reading the above, How does a tension mounting respond to the pressure to the shank at the point opposite the setting when a steering wheel of an automobile or golf club is applied? Wouldn't this cause the setting to spread when the fingers are squeezed about a firm object?
