How much are costs to upgrade older rings with new diamonds?

And would replacing a newer (bigger) diamond ruin an old ring or can they fix it so the ring can hold the newer diamond?

Much depends upon the size of the new diamond and also the design of the ring. If the ring is 4 prong set for example, it is often easy to swap diamonds out if they are of a similar size for example. Please let us have more details.
