I have a round diamond in the neighborhood of 1 ct set it a bezel style setting. This Diamond is GIA certified to have no florescence and a cut grade of very good, polish and symmetry VG as well., it’s an E, VS1, culet none … Now here is my question.
Under extreme lighting conditions, for example, when held very close to light or in direct sunlight the diamond looks dark but only in these extreme conditions, otherwise it sparkles tremendously. I was wondering if this has anything to do with it being set in a bezel setting that hides the sides of the diamond. Could it be that when the diamond is flooded with light the setting traps the light and gives off this effect? I’m not an expert but I thought a well cut diamond will reflect all light directly out the top and not cause the effect I’m seeing?
All comments appreciated!
